 Greetings from cold Columbus!

If you like the Enfield Musket, then this is the online place where you can know of the latest developments, interact with others who share your interest and offer your input.
Here's the latest- I'm already making some design changes in CAD, which will result in updated patterns in a few
weeks. This is being done to primarily allow the 500 top ends for a 1000cc twin. I had a huge no. of mails urging that I make that option available, particularly for  USA riders, as parts, performance upgrades, tuning,
etc. are all geared to the 500 here, almost no 350s to be seen. But a good number of people were happy that I chose the 350 as with its lighter piston, it is generally less stressed and  smoother but slower. Not too worried about that as there are tuning gurus who can extract significantly more go from the 350.
The changes I'm making should allow either a 700 or 1000, you choose and the cylinder stud holes will be located and threaded accordingly.
The plan is to offer the thing as a  kit, built "stock and mild" or "pretty quick " - as you like it. You can do the work yourself or have a buddy/shop do it for you. I'm planning to provide ONLY the stuff you need, to keep it as affordable as possible, which would minimally be the complete, machined cases with the crank (or without it if you like), cam spindles, bearings and oil pump. Custom engine mounting plates, frame mod parts. Would like to offer a twin down tube conversion down the road too. You add the top ends, carbs, transmission, upgraded clutch, which you can source from a combination of your own Bullet, Classic Motorworks, Hitchcocks, Ebay or anywhere else.

The next step, already underway, is to update the patterns with the design changes, make a new batch of castings (a few sets) and work out an efficient machining process for CNC. At this point, I will be able to calculate costs and take orders from the brave few who will fearlessly (or nervously) throw  caution to the wind and part with moolah for 3 lumps of aluminium which hold the promise of  audible motive force.
I hope there are atleast five of you out there!

Regards,
Aniket

Once you get that 1000cc version sorted I'll love to order a set, obviously only if its within my budget. Would like to hear how the motor holds up over a long period, say 25,000 miles or so.

Any thoughts to using heads, barrels and injectors from the new unit engines?

Aniket - inspired, simply inspired. Have you an order book as I would like to add my name for a kit(s) as soon as you produce them(need a deposit ?). 350 or 500 I really do'nt mind. Wish you every success for your exciting project.

Hey Aniket, I've followed your exploits building this awesome engine since i first found your original youtube videos. Riding an enfield based v-twin with proper right-foot shift is one of my dreams so i really would like to be put on your order list once you manage to get some made! Alternatively, would you be willing to license your CAD schematics to those of us here in the UK who may have access to casting and engineering facilities?

Hi guys,
I'm dying to move ahead but am sort of stuck with the lack of a second bike for the redesign project. Pretty soon, may have to take apart Musket 1 to make way for Musket 2. Hope that doesn't happen.
Bottom end kits WILL be made, hang in there. We will live to see a Musket owners club!
The injected engine is so new, its hard to find top ends to play with. I could certainly build a fuel injected V twin, perhaps it could be a future project.
Thanks for dropping by!

Aniket,
Firstly, I'd like to congratulate you for the Musket. As Mechanical Engineer miself I know what goes in such project. I live in Brazil and I´m in line for a conversion kit. May I suggest you to change for a 5O or 55 degree design for the new 1000cc version?
Cheers,
Lúcio

Hi Lucio.

Actually, the new crankcase is going to end up with a V angle around 60 deg.
Tell me why you prefer 50-55deg?

Aniket,
60 deg looks fine. I just mentioned a different angle than the original Musket because of "The look". You know: most people will buy the Musket for nostalgic reasons and a tighter angle looks more "vintage" than the original Musket.
Cheers,
Lúcio

As with everyone else I'm impressed with your work so far. But I would like lots more details on the new crankcase. I assume that you have designed a new and substantial crankshaft. What are you going to use for rods? Are you going to machine the kit yourself or are you going to farm out that work? I'm looking at buying a new four axis milling machine so let me know if I can help in any way.

HI Aniket.

why don't you come to Delhi and take some (2/3 may be)500 top ends just like you took the first one of yours to US, I would have suggested you to bring the whole project back to India as bullets here are easy available and cheap but as you are all settled in US already then may be this could be the next best option............well I am not much of a expert of anything just tried to help, because I really am in love with your project and lusting for one to be available back here.

Have you considered contacting the Royal Enfield Company may be they will sponsor your project and market this mod. I know
things doesn't go so smooth and easy for real, but for a guy with tenacity and determination like yours, I don't think that's much of a problem.

Hi !

At one point you are discussing the V angle mesure. For esthetic reasons, you suggest you to respect the following calculation :

v = angle in degree of both head
f = angle of the front fork with horizon line mesured from the center of the front wheel

v should be as follow :

v = (f - 90) x 2

If this is respected, the head closer to the back wheel will be parallel to the front wheel fork. Estheticaly, it will create an internal visual logic.

Right now, the bullet classic's front fork is at 115°. That makes v = 50°

This is just an esthetical point of view. Now you have to check if mechanically it is possible or effective.

There are few "internal logical rules" in the design of the bullet which could be interesting to analyse and explore.

Humbly,

Hi guys,

Rick: The crank in the bullet is bolted together like Harleys. I made a custom crankpin to accept 2 conrods, stock heavier style flywheels, rebalanced. Both crank bearings-drive side and timing side have been upgraded.
Sujeet, Trayambak and Soham- unfortunately, I have been informed by auto and business journalists in India that any customization of the frame or engine is just plain illegal and the bike will not be registered and may even be confiscated. If I try to get it approved, it won't pass the new EURO 4 emission rules that are coming into effect. Anyways, if anyone who has more knowledge or contacts in this area of Indian laws could find out if there is a legal way to get this done, i'm all for providing engines!
BTW- have any of you guys heard about Royal Enfield coming out with a neww 700cc parallel twin, like the classic Interceptor from the 60s? That may already satisfy the demand for a good size twin.
I'll still love my Musket though, forever!

Hey Ani
Your project is always a source of exitment for me! what about some extra cooling fins on the cases or even some scroll work to enhance the vintage look?

Hi Michael!

Nice to hear from you again!
I'm trying to make it prettier...and yes, some cooling fins may sprout in new places.
Thanks!

Hi Aniket,
first and foremost congratulations on your design. I have been following your work ever since you got your project online and i have to say the dedication that you've put the musket is awesome. Will you have a kit available for the indian markets as well ? if you were here in India i would have gladly handed over one of my enfields as a doner to your heart transplant. Looking forward to owning a musket of my own someday soon.
