CASTINGS! Pretty enough for the casting couch!

Hullo there! Great news! Those wooden patterns you saw here not long ago yielded some really nice castings!
Sorry for the delay in updating the blog, have been working hard on figuring out the CNC machining setups. Also, have been posting stuff on the Facebook page, neglecting to post an update here. But...here goes!
Picture
Can you spot the difference :-)

Two complete sets on the foundry floor, fresh from the shot blasting cabinet, still warm!
Machining has begun on one of the sets, currently figuring out the best sequence of operations for efficiency and accuracy and the machining fixtures required. This is moving a LOT quicker than me learning as I went along on the old manual Bridgeport three years ago! Stay tuned!
Best wishes,
Aniket

I agree. I think it looks way classier than the new Sportster motors. My reaction was, damn, what a beautiful motor! I've never thought about a custom crafted bike before, but I'm thinking about it now.

This is becoming greatness! The castings look good from here and I am beginning to clear out space to start building away - my wife will be thrilled to be sure. What is the option for the crank these days? A custom forging or something more proletarian? Also - how about gasket sets and all the little bits and pieces that will be necessary to have a working, power-thumping engine? These castings look so good that I am starting to plan a ride!!

Can we get these engines in India or will be sold only in US.

Hi Kunal,
Unfortunately, any mods to frames and engines is prohibited by law in India. Doing this legally is impossible but I'll keep looking into ways to do so!

Excellent Stuff!. WIll the new engine be able to accommodate "Big Head" Bullet heads as well?

Hi WRXr, it may be possible to fit the Big Heads, would need to get my hands on one to confirm though!

I understand that Hitchcock's in England has recast them. Perhaps they could provide dimensions.

Scroll down.

Aniket-

One more question for you: Will this engine fit into a stock frame or will modification be required in the form of lengthening and further gussets?

Hi WRXr,
The front cylinder being angled forward doesn't allow the motor to drop into a stock frame- the top tube has to be cut and stretched 6"...I'm also planning a different version of the toptube/downtube setup which will significantly reduce this stretch for those wanting a shorter wheelbase for quicker turns. These two options will allow the choice of either a long 'vintage touring' proportion such as the Brough, Matchless, AJS V twins or a sportier short one such as the Vincent. Thanks!

If I recall, the Brough had a wheelbase of 58 inches. The enfield has a wheelbase of 54...so that would stretch it a bit. I would imagine that the top frame would be triangulated with another cross piece as well? Or better yet encapsulated to create an oil tank like on the vincent? If the whole affair could be kept "low-rise" it may indeed look very Brough-like.

Just thinking out loud...

This would be my dream motorbike ! The way the bike fits the new engine is perfect in the proportions ,I think the long version will be best looking for this type of build !
Royal Enfield should beg you tu join them ! Bravo !
